In a few short years, Proud 2 Play have helped shape the landscape of sports inclusion for LGBTI+ people in Victoria, and parts of Australia. We approach LGBTI+ inclusion in sport from all angles to provide grassroots organisations, clubs, state and national sporting organisations and other sporting associations with education, inclusive policy and procedure, inclusive events and improvements in LGBTI+ visibility in their sport. Through these approaches, we estimate to have supported over 1,000 LGBTI+ community members in sports inclusion.

Rainbow Sports Alliance

The Rainbow Sports Alliance is an Australian-first. A Proud 2 Play-facilitated working group aiming to encourage sporting organisations to work collaboratively to enhance inclusion of the LGBTI+ community across the Victorian sports landscape and beyond. Proud 2 Play are incredibly excited to be working with this broad range of sports and hope that the LGBTI+ community sees that the Victorian sporting community are committed to improving inclusion of all people regardless of sexuality, sex or gender identity. The Rainbow Sports Alliance is partially funded by Sport and Recreation Victoria to expand the alliance to include more members in 2020, as well as facilitating bi- monthly meetings.

There is a growing body of research documenting the state of LGBTI+ inclusion in sport in Australia and internationally, the benefits of participation and challenges organisations may be faced with when creating inclusive environments. We believe in the power of using evidence-based research to underpin our actions. We regularly conduct this research ourselves in conjunction with sporting organisations and universities. To find out more, visit our Research section.
