About

Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby

News

Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby, formerly Latrobe City Roller Derby, are a not for profit, Mixed gender Roller Derby club in Gippsland Victoria. Affiliated with Skate Victoria, we are based at our dedicated GRRD Shed Facility at the Traralgon Showgrounds, and train weekly at the Traralgon venue, at Warragul at Lardner Park and at Leongatha at the Community College. We have also been known to hang out at Moe at the amazing @Stadium 34.
We offer both competing roller derby league training and a fun, social and fitness skating program for people of all skill levels. Called SkateFit, the program runs three times a year in each of our locations and we’re always welcoming new people to get involved.

We are originating and active members of Team Regional Victoria 'The Rolling Matildas' and have undergone significant development in name, brand and programs in 2017 to better serve our region of Gippsland and our members (current and prospective).

ABOUT US -
Latrobe City Roller Derby (LCRD) was formed in July 2010 via a Facebook group looking for interested participants who just wanted to attempt to roller skate. By Christmas that same year the skaters achieved their ‘white star’ with the help of Melbourne leagues.

After 7 years, the league had developed into a community of dedicated skaters, dynamic trainers and passionate members from all walks of life from all reaches of the Gippsland Ranges - from the Strzelecki, Baw Baw, Latrobe Valley and beyond.

Now, we continue to be a welcoming, developmental and growing club spanning across this region and in to Eastern Melbourne. To reflect this growth and better capture our membership and the communities that support us, LCRD has been rebranded in September of 2017 to be known as Gippsland Ranges Roller Derby.

We follow the rules of Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), as do all other leagues within Australia. In accordance with WFTDA, we assess our skaters using the 'Star' system, as do most roller derby leagues within Australia and the United States.

GRRD is an incorporated league, and has a fully functioning volunteer executive committee.
