Cricket Victoria last week released new Trans and Gender Diverse Participation Guidelines as they continue to solidify their commitment to inclusion of trans and gender diverse people in cricket.
The guidelines were implemented off the back of a policy framework recommended to Cricket Victoria by Proud 2 Play.
The organisation has generally been viewed as a leader in LGBTI+ inclusion through its annual Proud Cricket Program and commissioning of research into LGBTI+ inclusion in Australian cricket.
The guidelines state that, “Cricket Victoria believes that experiences and expressions of gender can be diverse and that participation should be grounded in equity and equal opportunity.”
They go on to say that, “All Athletes shall be allowed to participate in any Cricket Victoria community sanctioned event in accordance with their gender identity. This is irrespective of the legal sex classification listed on their birth certificate, driver’s license, government documentation and regardless of whether they have undergone any medical or surgical intervention.”
The guidelines also offer protections for people who feel they have been breached through the protections outlined in Cricket Victoria’s Member Protection Policy.
Proud 2 Play are pleased to see the sport of cricket continually progress to become a sport that all people can enjoy.
