Last month Proud 2 Play were thrilled to welcome our new Chief Executive Officer, Christine Granger. Christine fills the role of outgoing Co-Directors, James Lolicato and Ryan Storr, who Co-Founded the organisation in 2016. James continues on with his incredible work at Pride Cup while Ryan will fill a permanent position on the Proud 2 Play board.
Christine brings with her a wealth of experience from the sporting, government and not for profit sectors. Most notably, Christine was the Coordinator of the Liverpool Street Games where sport was used as a development tool to engage young people with sport who were at risk of being involved in crime, and drug and alcohol abuse. She also spent time at Centre for Multicultural Youth working with refugee populations and as an Inclusion and Participation Officer at City of Casey.
“Proud 2 Play emerged from the minds of two people, who recognise the impact that sport can have on the development of society,” Christine said.
“I have seen the development and progress made by this organisation and it is with excitement and some trepidation that I come into this role. I have some big shoes to fill and I hope I can continue to move this organisation forward.”
“As a member of the community and as someone who has spent their life playing and working in sport, I am well aware of the landscape we are working in and the impact this has on people’s lives,” she reflected.
Christine says that, “LGBTI+ inclusion in sport has come to the forefront of inclusion in sport in recent years. Whilst there is still work to be done, the progress made recently for women in sport shows us that change is possible.”
“I look forward to continuing the work of Proud 2 Play in making sure that Australia is a leader in LGBTI+ inclusion in sport.”
Christine Granger joins Luke Major (Partnerships Manager), Bowie Stover (Events and Community Outreach Manager) and Dana Tieman (Intern) in the Proud 2 Play team. You can reach Christine for contact at firstname.lastname@example.org.
